Polish justice minister resigns over gun license doubts

Xinhua, April 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Poland's Minister of Justice, Cezary Grabarczyk, has resigned over the doubts concerning his firearms license legality.

The Chancellery of Polish Prime Minister informed that on Wednesday evening, Grabarczyk handed his resignation, which was accepted by polish Prime Minister, Ewa Kopacz.

Polish President, Bronislaw Komorowski, announced he would accept the resignation on Thursday evening, once he is back from his visit to the north of Poland.

According to Polish constitution, the president is responsible for nominating and dismissing ministers.

After handing his resignation, Grabarczyk said "there should be no doubts concerning the justice minister." He claimed to be innocent.

Last week, local media reported that Grabarczyk was questioned by prosecutors over irregularities concerning the passing of exams and issuing of gun license. Grabarczyk was alleged to have his gun permit issued without passing any exams back in 2012.

Grabarczyk is the first minister to leave the Cabinet of Ewa Kopacz, who took office in September 2014. Endit
