World Rugby committed to developing rugby in Fiji: manager

Xinhua, April 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

World Rugby is willing to further develop the game with the Fiji Rugby Union and is committed to developing rugby in the Pacific island country, a regional manager of the organization said Thursday.

William Glenwright, World Rugby's general manager for Asia and Oceania who was in Fiji to meet and discuss avenues to further develop the sport with the Fiji Rugby Union, took the opportunity to meet in Suva with Laisenia Tuitubou, Fiji's minister for youth and sports, to reaffirm World Rugby's committed stance on developing the Fijian brand of rugby, according to the Department of Information.

"World Rugby is fully committed to developing rugby here in Fiji and we will continue to provide the same level of commitment we have shown throughout the years," said Glenwright.

Fiji will continue to support the development of sports in the country, particularly rugby, Tuitubou told Glenwright, thanking him on World Rugby's continued support shown throughout the years in developing rugby in the island country.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports will keep working with World Rugby to further boost Fiji's international rugby standings, said Josefa Sania, permanent secretary of the ministry.

Introduced during the British colonial period, Rugby has over the years become a lot of Fijians' favorite sport and an integral part of their way of life. Endite
