Tokyo shares end higher on optimism over earnings

Tokyo shares ended Tuesday higher amid optimism toward better firm performances by domestic companies.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 75.63 points, or 0. 38 percent, from Monday at 20,058.95.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 8.36 points, or 0.52 percent higher to 1,627.43.

Gainers were led by mining, precision instruments and insurance, while decliners included metal products and pharmaceuticals.

The turnover was about 2,865.8 billion yen (about 24.06 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
