South Korea on Tuesday assessed the new guideline for defense cooperation between the United States and Japan "neither positively nor negatively" due to remaining concerns over military operation of Japanese forces in and around the Korean Peninsula.

Under the new guideline, revised for the first time since 1997, Japan will have the right to exercise collective self-defense, being allowed to defend not just its own territory, but also the United States and other third countries if needed. (S.Korea-U.S.- Japan-Defense)

NEW DELHI -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi late Monday evening held a high level meeting to take stock of the evacuation efforts in earthquake-hit Nepal and also took stock of relief supplies and material sent to the affected areas in Nepal and India, local media said Tuesday. "In today's follow up meeting on the situation due to the earthquake, reviewed progress of relief and rescue work in India and Nepal," Modi tweeted."Took stock of the evacuation of those stranded in Nepal. KATHMANDU -- The death toll from Saturday's major earthquake as well as Sunday's aftershocks in Nepal has climbed to 4,349, including 20 mountaineers, and more than 8,517 others were injured, said the National Emergency Operation Center of Nepal's Home Ministry on Tuesday morning. (Nepal-Toll)

SEOUL -- South Korean President Park Geun-hye said Tuesday that she would push for an overall political reform in the political arena, a day after Prime Minister Lee Wan-koo stepped down on suspicion over his involvement in bribery scandal.

The presidential press secretary, read a statement for President Park, who is suffering from stomachache and high fever after a 12-day visit to Latin America, saying that political reform and new political culture should be formed by getting to the bottom of how bribe-taking has been rampant in the country's political arena.
