Chinese prosecutors investigated a total of 9,636 people suspected of corruption in the first quarter of 2015, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said in a report on Monday.

The suspects, including 907 officials at county-level or above, were involved in 7,556 cases, of which some 88 percent involved amounts of over 50,000 yuan (about 8,000 U.S. dollars) or embezzlement of public funds amounting to 100,000 yuan or more.

Xu Jinhui, chief of the SPP's anti-graft bureau, said provincial prosecutorial agencies launched investigations into 12 provincial and ministerial level officials in 12 cases.

The sectors related to people's livelihoods, including social security, medical services, education and scientific research, were focuses in the three months. Over 4,400 such cases involving 1.28 billion yuan and 5,915 people were investigated.

A total of 1,891 people were investigated for offering bribes in the same period, an increase of 6.1 percent.

The report also said 2,528 people in 1,815 cases were investigated for abuses of power and dereliction of duty. Of those suspects, 302 worked in the judiciary.

Of the 1,049 people charged with dereliction of duty, 482 concerned the construction industry. Endit
