Togo's National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) on Monday released the first results of the April 25 presidential elections in which the incumbent President Faure Gnassingbe faced off with four other candidates.
Partial results showed Gnassingbe leading with 133,375 votes against his main challenger Jean-Pierre Fabre who had 68,957 votes.
The other three candidates, Mouhamed Traore had 1,761 votes, Gerry Taama had 1,657 votes and Aime Gogue had 1,569 votes.
The results were from 934 polling stations in six electoral constituencies, out of a total of 42 electoral constituencies.
Over 3.5 million voters were expected to turn out in 8,994 polling stations to elect Togo's president who would serve between 2015 to 2020.
According to the preliminary conclusions released on Sunday by the observer mission of the Economic Community of West African States, the voting process ended without any major incident.
The incumbent president is contesting for a third term. He came to power in 2005 through an early election following the death of his father General Gnassingbe Eyadema who had ruled the country for 38 years.
The president was re-elected in 2010 with 60.89 percent of the votes cast, against 33.94 percent obtained by Jean-Pierre Fabre. Endi
