Assailants attack Fenerbahce's Ankara office

Xinhua, April 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Turkish super league football team Fenerbahce's Ankara office was attacked by a group of unknown assailants Friday night, breaking the windows and computers, local BGN news reported Saturday.

The Ankara office of Fenerbahce sports club on Tunus Street was attacked by some assailants holding meat cleavers. They broke the windows and destroyed the computers in the office.

This is the second attack that targeted the club in a month, coming just weeks after an gun shot attack on Fenerbahce's team bus in the northeastern province of Trabzon.

The motive of the attack on the Fenerbahce football team remains still not clear. But the enmity between Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor that first emerged with a match-fixing scandal is believed to be the main reason behind the incident, as local news reported.

In July 2011 Fenerbahce, who had won the league that season, was implicated in the match-fixing scandal, and Trabzonspor, who had finished that season as runner-up, asked to be given Fenerbahce's domestic championship trophy. Endi
