1st LD: 15 security members killed in suicide bombs in Iraq

Xinhua, April 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 15 security members were killed and 22 others wounded when three suicide car bombers struck the positions of border guards on Saturday at the border crossing point with Jordan, a security source said.

The incident occurred when three suicide bombers blew up three vehicles, including two trucks, packed with explosives, at Trebil border crossing with Jordan which located at a remote area of Anbar province's desert area, the source from Anbar told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The blasts also damaged nearby buildings and a checkpoint at the crossing point, the source added.

Iraqi aircraft flew over the area to secure the scene from possible further attacks by the Islamic State (IS) militant group, which frequently attacked Iraq's border point with the neighboring countries.

The IS group has seized most of Iraq's largest province of Anbar and tried to advance toward the capital Baghdad, but several counter attacks by Iraqi security forces and Shiite militias have pushed them back.

The security situation in Iraq has drastically deteriorated since last June, when bloody clashes broke out between Iraqi security forces and the IS militants. Endit
