Israeli police kills knife-wielding Palestinian teen in east Jerusalem

Xinhua, April 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Israeli paramilitary Border Police said Saturday that it shot dead a knife-wielding Palestinian youth near an east Jerusalem checkpoint after he attempted to attack them.

Ali Said Abu Ghanam, a 16-year-old resident of the Palestinian neighborhood of At-Tur, started running toward the policemen at the A-Zayyim checkpoint Friday overnight, according to a police statement.

The police shot dead Abu Ghanam as he failed to accept the police warning that they would shoot him if he would not stop what he did, said police spokeswoman Luba Samri.

However, family members of Abu Ghanam told Palestinian media that he was killed with no reasons, quoting eye witnesses as saying that the policemen "executed" the boy who did not attack the police.

Tensions between Israel and the Palestinian has been surging recently. On Thursday night, Israel's army artillery fired several shells on the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanon, hours after a rocket was fired from the Strip into southern Israel. Endit
