Counter-attack kills 4 Taliban in northern Afghan Baghlan province

The armed Taliban launched heavy attacks on Burka district in Baghlan province with Pul-e-Khumri as its capital 160 km north of Kabul on Friday morning but retreated from the area after losing four fighters, police said Saturday. "Unknown number of Taliban militants launched three-pronged attack on Burka district in the wee hours of Friday but police and army forced them to flee after killing four rebels,"Baghlan police spokesman Jawed Basharat told Xinhua.

Three more insurgents had been killed during the firefight which lasted for a while, he added.

Taliban militants who launched their so-called annual spring offensive from Friday morning have yet to make comment. Endi
