Ebola ruled out in tests on New Zealand health worker

Xinhua, April 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

A second New Zealand health worker who was isolated after falling ill from the international mission to fight Ebola in West Africa has tested negative for the virus, Health Minister Jonathan Coleman said Friday.

"Laboratory testing and clinical assessment has confirmed that the patient does not have Ebola," Coleman said in a statement.

"The patient's condition has since improved and they have been discharged from Wellington Hospital," he said.

The unidentified patient had left Sierra Leone on April 15 and had reported "minor symptoms" to a public health officer on Wednesday.

The only person who had been in contact with the patient during the potentially infectious period had been the patient's partner, who was being monitored according to international protocols, Coleman said on Thursday.

Another New Zealand health worker was isolated last month after falling ill on her return from West Africa, but Ebola was later ruled out as the cause of the illness. Endi
