Botswana boxers eye regional crown

Xinhua, April 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Botswana boxing team that left Wednesday morning for the Africa Zone IV boxing tournament has vowed to bring back the regional titles from South Africa.

The tournament is scheduled to start in Pretoria, South Africa on Wednesday and to end on May 26. Speaking to the media prior to the team's departure, Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) publicity officer Kenny Maragana said they are confident of the team's success following weeks of intense preparations.

"The team has been training intensively over the last couple of weeks, everyone is ready and we believe we can be crowned champions this year," he said.

Botswana has sent a men's team made up of eight boxers as well as a women team of two boxers. Maragana said they are aware of tough competition expected in the regional competition and that they have sent a team of technically very good boxers who have experience in the international stage.

The tournament will be used as qualifies for the 2015 All Africa Games later this year. Winners will also qualify for the Africa Boxing Championships where they will seek a berth at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Endi
