Spanish ambassador recalled from Venezuela as diplomatic row escalates

Xinhua, April 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo confirmed on Wednesday that the country's ambassador to Venezuela has been recalled for "consultation," as a diplomatic row with the government of Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro escalates.

Garcia-Margallo made his decision after declarations from Maduro in which he accused Spain of "supporting terrorism" in Venezuela and forming part of "an international conspiracy to overthrow" his government.

"Given the level of verbal irritation that I have seen from President Maduro, I have decided to recall our ambassador to Caracas for consultation," said the Spanish foreign minister. Endit
