Slovenia offers help to Italy over refugee crisis

Slovenia on Monday expressed its willingness to help neighboring Italy cope with problems resulting from a huge inflow of refugees coming from the Southern Mediterranean.

"This is not Italy's, Malta's, and Greece's problem, this is a European problem. We must show solidarity in tackling it," Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec told reporters.

"There is a high probability of once again deploying the Triglav battleship," he said.

Erjavec made the remarks after was is thought to be 700 refugees were reportedly killed when a boat capsized in international waters south of Italy's Sicily on Saturday night.

In 2014, Slovenia offered it's warship to patrol the waters off Lampedusa island to help Italy manage the great number of refugees flowing into Europe. Endit
