Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski on Monday underlined the necessity of innovation in advancing economic development.

In a speech delivered at the opening ceremony of the seventh edition of the European Economic Congress held at Katowice in southern Poland, Komorowski said he hoped his country would become one of the top ten most innovative economies in the European Union within 10 years.

Topics scheduled to be discussed at this year's congress include the dynamic investment plan for Europe, practical implementation of the idea of innovation in the European economy, and the dilemmas related to the energy industry, reindustrialization and climate policy.

The congress has attracted politicians, economists, entrepreneurs and big names from global companies in Europe, Asia - mostly China and India, and Africa.

There are around 100 sessions and panels dedicated to various aspects of economy and businesses after the opening ceremony.

The congress attracts around 6000 participants every year. Endit
