Somalia: investment from Asian-African countries can help Mogadishu fight terrorism

Xinhua, April 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Somali Foreign Minister Khalid Omar Ali said here Monday that investments from Asian and African countries could help the war-torn east African nation fight terrorism through regaining economic stability.

Speaking during the ministerial meeting of the Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of Asian-African Conference (AACC), the foreign minister said Mogadishu had put up a number of pillars policies, prioritizing security, political inclusiveness and economic recovery.

"Terrorism is not defeated through military means alone", he said, adding that Somalia could only have peace by building a government that can be trusted to deliver the services Somalis need.

"There are lots of intra Afro-Asia cooperation achievements, which should help to facilitate the process of further strengthening of this strategic partnership spirit to promote world peace and prosperity," he said.

Somalia, an east African country troubled for long by conflicts and terrorist acts, established a new federal government in 2012. However, terrorism still pose a severe threat to the countries and its neighbors, notably Kenya.

Somalia enjoys over 3,300 km of coastline, the longest in Africa. The country is rich in fishery resources and mineral deposits. The foreign minister said investors could notice the consistent policies supported by combined political commitments in Mogadishu and improved regulatory frameworks in the country. Endi
