Advantage won mean Barca hold back in Champions League quarters v PSG

Xinhua, April 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

FC Barcelona will be confident of reaching the semi-final of the Champions League for the seventh time in eight years when they entertain Paris Saint Germain in the second round of their quarter-final tie on Tuesday night.

Barcelona have a 3-1 cushion from their win in Paris into Tuesday game, a result which means their rivals have to score at least three times in order to have any chance of qualifying.

However, Barcelona coach Luis Enrique, who will be celebrating his 50th game in charge on Tuesday night, will know that the French side could well be a more fearsome beast than the side his players dominated for the full 90 minutes a week ago.

For a start former Barca striker Zlatan Ibrahimovich returns after suspension along with playmaker Marco Verratti and they should provide more bite to the side, especially the Swedish striker, who left Barca under a cloud and who will once again be looking to make a statement in front of his former fans.

Central defender Thiago Silva, who suffered a muscle injury a week ago, also travels, but his presence, is not assured as he looks to recover, while another former Barca player, Thiago Motta misses out through injury.

Barcelona faced a difficult game against Valencia on Saturday and have another tough game away to city rivals Espanyol at the weekend and that, coupled with Barca' s first leg win could tempt Luis Enrique to rest some players, although full back Dani Alves does not believe that is the case.

"We were really well-positioned on the pitch and showed personality in Paris. The only way to qualify is to show personality and character and to take risks," said the defender, who also returns after suspension.

"We are not going to speculate with the result because we don' t know how to do so and we can' t think about out advantage, but about how we control the game and to score goals. It is the only way we can be superior to PSG;" he commented. Endi
