The Houston Rockets surged past the Dallas Mavericks 118-108 Saturday night at Toyota Center in Game 1 of their Western Conference playoff series.

The Rockets established an early big lead in the first quarter and met with challenges from the Mavericks in the ensuing two quarters. Dallas once cut the deficit to as few as five points in the final period, but Houston responded with a late spurt to hold on to their advantage.

Seven Rockets players finished the game with double figures. James Harden scored 24 points with 11 assists. Terrence Jones added 19 points and nine rebounds. Corey Brewer scored 13 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with 24 points. Former Rocket Chandler Parsons had 10 points and six rebounds for Dallas.
