Uganda are the winners of the 2015 Africa Zone VI Golf Championship which climaxed here on Saturday.

The hosts had never won the trophy since the event started 21 years ago.

Skippered by Adolf Muhumuza, Uganda finished the day on 18.5 points while South Africa who have won 19 titles before came second on 17.5 points.

"This is the best win ever. We are very happy and glad that the boys worked so hard and have made sure the trophy remains here," said winning coach Amos Kamya after the tough event.

Uganda's last player on the course at the final day, Martin Ochaya won his game against Namibia's Gabriel Shikodi on the 15th pin.

South Africa's Teagan Gauche and Namibia's Paul Ndeilenga were disqualified at the onset of the final day for failure to honor the official tee off time after arriving late from the Sheraton Hotel.

Two Ugandans, Robert Oluba and Ronald Otile lost their games before the six other players on the team all won their games in different fashion.

"We played as a unit, everything we did was as a result of teamwork," added Muhumuza.

South African captain Tristen Strydom said it was unfortunate they failed to defend the title, but added that they will return next year a stronger side.

Zimbabwe who bagged 16.5 points finished third, while Kenya on 15.5 points were fourth. The other participating teams included Zambia (5th), Swaziland (5th), Botswana (7th), Malawi (8th) and Namibia. Enditem
