11 killed, 134 injured during Myanmar water festival period in Yangon

A total of eleven people were killed and 134 others injured during Myanmar's four-day water festival period in Yangon, a drop from last year's same event, according to Yangon region traffic police office Saturday.
The casualties were in connection with 50 accident cases triggered by overload, drug consumption, liquor drinking and over- speed driving, the sources said.
During last year's water festival in the former capital, 15 were killed with 178 being injured, according to then report.
There were over 200 big and small water-throwing pandals erected in Yangon this year along major roads including Pyay, Kabaraye Pagoda and Kandawgyi Lake roads
Police force and security personnel were deployed at larger and medium pavilions to ensure the safety of all revelers during this year's e Thingyan water festival which lasted from April 13 to 16.
Following the end of the four-day water festival, the first day of Myanmar traditional new year was ushered in on Friday. Endi
