Frankfurt share the spoils with Monchengladbach in German Bundesliga

Xinhua, April 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Frankfurt and Monchengladbach settled for one point following a goalless draw at the curtain raiser of the 29th round on Friday.

Both sides staged a fast paced but evenly balanced encounter. Frankfurt's Haris Seferovic had the chance to break the deadlock with just 29 second into the game but Swiss international pulled wide from promising position.

As the match progressed Monchengladbach took over but neither Patrick Herrmann nor Fabian Johnson converted their opportunities from close range.

"Foals" goalkeeper Yann Sommer denied Frankfurt the opener at the half hour mark when he tipped Nelson Valdez header over the bar. However, both sides continued to work out goalscoring opportunities unable to open the scoring within the break.

After the restart the "Eagles" gained momentum but unmarked Stefan Aigner wasted the best chance for the hosts when he shot wide of the near post from inside the box at the 70th minute.

In the dying minutes of the match Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp defused an effort by substitute Thorgan Hazard from a dangerous position.

With the result, Frankfurt remain unbeaten in the 9th game in row on home soil meanwhile Monchengladbach remain undefeated in their 9th consecutive game. Frankfurt stay on the 8th place with 36 points, while Monchengladbach remain on the 3rd place with 54 points.

The following fixtures are scheduled for tomorrow: Hoffenheim encounter front runners Bayern Munich, Leverkusen host Hannover, Augsburg clash relegation threatened Stuttgart, Dortmund see newly promoted Paderborn, Berlin face newly promoted Cologne and Freiburg meet Mainz. Endite
