Albanian PM urges citizens not to fall into economic asylum trap

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Friday urged Albanians not to naively believe that they can be granted asylum in European Union countries.
Rama said that the groups that are promising asylum to Albanians are criminals, and that the citizens should not believe what they say.
He said that the European Union has made it clear that it will not provide economic asylum to Albanians. He called on Albanians not to fall prey to these scams.
"This is a big misunderstanding that is being exploited by criminal groups, in order to manipulate people. They take money from people, telling them that Germany is looking for a number of people of different professions. This is a scam, and people must not fall prey to this fraud," said Rama.
He added that Albania has to follow the same path that the other European countries have travelled, during their integration.
On Tuesday, the Albanian Interior Ministry said the police have removed the rights of 750 Albanian citizens to travel to the Schengen area.
The ministry appealed to its citizens once again to respect the Schengen movement rules by traveling with regular documents. It is absolutely impossible for the Albanian citizens to receive political asylum in the European Union, the ministry stressed. Endit
