Cambodia sees decline in road fatalities during Khmer New Year travel

Road traffic crashes killed at least 37 Cambodian people and injured 248 others during the Khmer New Year travel from April 14-16, a remarkable drop from the same period last year, according to a report from the National Police on Friday. "A total of 112 road accidents took place nationwide during this year's holiday period, down 24 percent compared with 148 cases during the same period last year,"the report said. "The main causes of the accidents were high-speed, alcohol and neglect driving."

The number of the dead during this year's holiday was 37, one less than that of last year, while the number of the injured people was 248 during this year's travel, down 19 percent from 306 last year.

The crashes damaged 40 cars and trucks as well as 156 motorcycles. Endi
