Rwandese rebels kidnap 37 in eastern DR Congo

Xinhua, April 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thirty seven people were kidnapped on Wednesday by the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels in Rutshuru territory, east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), security sources in the region told Xinhua on Thursday.

According to the sources, the 37 people were taken to the bush by their kidnappers.

North Kivu deputy governor Feller Litahichirwa said a decision had been taken during a recent meeting of the provincial security committee to bolster security in the area.

Due to multiple cases of kidnapping reported in the last few months in this part of North Kivu province, the Congolese army has decided to escort all public vehicles using Goma-Kanyabayonga route. Endi
