Santa Fe shock Colo Colo in Copa Libertadores

Xinhua, April 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Colombia's Independiente Santa Fe all but secured a berth in the Copa Libertadores knockout phase with a shock 3-0 victory over Chile's Colo Colo on Wednesday.

Luis Paez stunned the hosts when he deftly controlled Luis Arias' through ball and wrong-footed two defenders before firing an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner.

He was to be outdone just after halftime when Omar Perez's swerving 30-yard shot cannoned into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Justo Villar with no chance.

Perez then set up his team's third goal when his free-kick was headed in by Yerry Mina in the 68th minute.

The result lifted Santa Fe to the top of Group 1 with nine points, ahead of Colo Colo on goal difference with one group match remaining.

In other fixtures on Thursday, Atlas beat Atletico Mineiro 1-0, Sao Paulo won 2-1 at Danubio and The Strongest defeated Emelec 1-0. Endi
