Four civilians were killed and nine others injured on Wednesday in a missile attack by the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector against two towns in Sudan's South Kordofan State, local Ashrooq net reported.

"The rebels targeted populated areas in Kadogli and Al-Dalang towns and killed 4 civilians including two children" said Abul-Basher Abdul-Ghader, commissioner of Kadogli locality.

He noted that the rebel's attack, which targeted the eastern part of Kadogli with seven Katusha missiles, injured nine civilians including five children.

"It is clear that these rebel attacks were meant to affect the electoral process, but instead they encouraged further the citizens to exercise their constitutional rights", he said.

On Tuesday, the rebels launched a mortar attack against the same two towns killing two women and injuring two children.

South Kordofan State has been witnessing armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the rebels of the SPLM/northern sector since 2011.

Last February, the rebels of SPLM/northern declared their rejection of the election and threatened to target the elections.

The Sudanese voters started on Monday casting their ballots in the presidential and legislative elections which will run till Wednesday while the final results are scheduled to be announced on April 27. Enditem
