Uganda prepares for Netball World Cup

Xinhua, April 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda has started training ahead of the 2015 World Cup to take place in Sydney, Australia in August.

"We have started serious training ahead of the World Cup and we have decided to have the experienced players who played in the qualifiers first before slowly bringing in some younger players and see how they cope ahead of the final selection process," coach Fred Mugerwa said on Wednesday.

The coach said although they had a short break to give room for players to participate for their respective clubs in the Club Championship in Tanzania, they are now back to serious business.

"We are working hard and hope to have a strong and competitive team by July ahead of the World Cup," added the coach.

Uganda qualified for the World Cup after beating Swaziland in the qualifiers in November last year.

Uganda, Zambia, Malawi and South Africa are the only nations that will represent the African continent at the 2015 Netball World Cup. The other teams are Australia, Barbados, England, Fiji, Jamaica, New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Trinidad & Tobago and Wales. Endite
