Juergen Klopp, Dortmund to part way at the end of the season

On request of coach Juergen Klopp, Dortmund agreed to void the cooperation at the end of the season, the "BVB" announced during a press conference on Wednesday.

Dortmund and Klopp sprang a surprise when they confirmed to part company at the end of the season, as Klopp asked for the dissolution of his contract. As a consequence, Klopp won't fulfill his current contract, stipulated until June 2018, as he will leave the club after seven years at the end of the season.

"I think I have been clearly with what I have said in recent years: As soon as I have the feeling that I am not the perfect coach for this extraordinary club, I would say it. I always asked myself this question. In the last few weeks and months I couldn't answer this question with a definitive yes. I am not tired and I have no plans to take a sabbatical moreover I have nothing arranged with other clubs either, nothing at all," Klopp said.

Despite the current situation of the club, sitting on the 10th position far away from the international business, Klopp has large shares on past successes of the club. Under Klopp the "BVB" lifted the German championship in 2011, after nine years, and the German domestic double in 2012. Besides that he led his squad into the UEFA Champions League final 2013, after 16 years of absence, which they lost 2-1 to league rivals Bayern Munich.

"On the initiative of Juergen we held some talks in recent days. Together we came to the conclusion that we part ways, after seven incredible successful years, at the end of the season," Dortmund's CEO Hans Joachim Watzke said.

However, the "BVB" left questions unanswered on Klopp's successor. German media speculates that former Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel will take the helm.
