Iceland's fish catch up 100 pct year-on-year in March

Iceland experienced a spike in total fish caught in March 2015, a 100.1-percent year-on-year growth, according to figures issued Wednesday by Statistics Iceland.

The total fish caught in March 2015 amounted to 191.9 thousand tonnes, including 53.3 thousand tonnes of demersal catch and 135.8 thousand tonnes of pelagic catch, and some shellfish, figures showed.

The total volume in March this year increased by 96 thousand tonnes of fish compared with that of March last year.

The total fish caught in the period between April 2014 and March 2015 was 1,325,701 tonnes, an increase of 27.6 percent compared with 1,038,931 tonnes of fish caught in the previous yearly period. Enditem
