A massive power outage, triggered by malfunctioned electrical substations, hit Macao on Wednesday, paralyzing fixed- line telephones, traffic lights and elevator services, the fire department said.

The power outage, which occurred at around 11:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT), affected Zona Nova de Aterros do Porto Exterior, Horta e Costa and Central districts as well as the Hengqin campus of the University of Macao. (Macao-Power Outage)

ISLAMABAD -- Senior Pakistani officials left for Saudi Arabia Wednesday for talks on the conflict in Yemen days after the country's parliament urged the government to remain neutral, officials said.

Saudi Arabia had formally requested Pakistan to provide fighter jets, warships and ground troops, the country's Defense Minister Khwaja Asif told the parliament. (Pakistan-Saudi Arabia-Yemen Crisis)

COLOMBO -- Over 400 people were injured in firework and road accidents during the two-day Sinhalese and Tamil New Year celebrations in the island nation, local police said Wednesday.

The injured people, totaling 419, had been admitted to hospitals for further treatment, the police media unit said. (Sri Lanka-New Year Celebrations-Celebrations)

JAKARTA -- Indonesian military commander General Moeldoko said on Wednesday that 26,000 soldiers and policemen would be deployed to secure the commemoration of the 60th Asian African Conference ( AAC) in Jakarta and Bandung city from April 19 to 24.
