University of Lisbon tightens rules against plagerism

The University of Lisbon is tightening its rules in a bid to put an end to plagiarism, Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias reported on Tuesday.

The university has installed a plagiarism detective system program called Ephorus, which compares students' work against the world's largest academic database.

The administration has asked teachers to address the issue during teaching sessions and students must sign a declaration to confirm they know the rules.

The Portuguese ministry of education has found only seven cases of plagiarism in the last four years, Diario de Noticias reported.

However, a study in 2011 suggested that around 70 percent of students in universities had admitted to having plagiarized. Endit
