Xinhua, April 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

The leader of opposition in Botswana parliament, Duma Boko has been voted by the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) to represent Africa on human rights issues.

The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) parliamentary caucus spokesperson Phenyo Butale said Tuesday Boko was voted by the group representing Africa at the Inter Parliamentary Union Conference in Vietnam.

Butale said Boko will represent Africa in a special body delegated by the International Parliamentary Union to work with the United Nations (UN) on human rights issues. He hailed Boko for being elected, saying it is the first time Botswana has a representative in such a forum.

Boko, whose party, the UDC, became the country's main opposition following the October 2014 general elections is a renowned lawyer in Botswana. He has run his private law firm for many years before going into politics and he continues to practice even as a legislator. Endi
