Zambia rues failure to qualify for All-Africa Games

Xinhua, April 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Zambia's Sports Minister Vincent Mwale says it is unfortunate that the Under-23 national soccer team failed to qualify for the All-Africa Games, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.

The Junior Chipolopolo lost 2-1 to Nigeria in the last round return leg played at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, the country's capital on Sunday. The first leg ended 0-0.

The Zambian minister said it was unfortunate that the team failed to win despite creating a myriad of scoring opportunities.

"We could have won the game maybe in the first half. We had a lot of chances, especially in the first half, but the boys couldn't score," he was quoted as saying by the paper.

He said it was saddening that the loss came soon after the under 17 and 20 national soccer teams' poor performance at the Africa Junior and Africa Youth Championships held in Niger and Senegal respectively. Endi
