9 militants, 2 soldiers killed in Afghanistan: official

Xinhua, April 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Afghan army has killed nine militants during the latest operations across the country, the Afghan Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Nine militants were killed and 11 others wounded after the Afghan army launched cleanup operations in Kapisa, Paktia, and Logar provinces over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.

Two army soldiers were killed as a result of enemy's heavy firing within the same period, the statement said, adding that the army specialists have also found and defused 32 landmines and roadside bombs.

The Taliban-led violence continues in Afghanistan. Afghan security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as they assumed the full security charges from NATO-led troops since Jan. 1.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments. Endi
