Gaza authorities cull 800 chicken infected with bird flu

Xinhua, April 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Gaza authorities said Monday that 800 chickens infected with bird flu have been culled.

The chickens were tested at the Agriculture Ministry's labs where they were confirmed to have been infected with the virus, a veterinary official told Xinhua.

The culling was made in line with the health regulations and standards, he added.

He called on the Gaza residents not to directly deal with birds and report any suspected cases.

At the end of January, the Ministry of Agriculture announced that it got rid of 15,000 birds infected with the virus in the northern West Bank cities of Jenin and Qalqilia.

Bird flu, or avian flu, is a worldwide disease that infect all kinds of birds and, in rare cases, humans get infected. Endit
