Germany's Minister of Food and Agriculture Christian Schmidt is expected to visit Zambia this week for a three-day working visit aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the agriculture sector, state-run official news agency reported on Monday.

Schmidt is expected to arrive in Zambia on Wednesday and is expected to officially open an agriculture training and knowledge center at a research institution, the Golden Valley Research Trust, in central Zambia's Chisamba district, according to the Zambia News and Information Service (ZANIS).

The inauguration of the center is aimed at promoting sustainable and modern agriculture in the southern African nation through enhanced bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The Germany minister is also expected to visit small holder farmers in central Zambia's Chibombo district as well as the southern city of Livingstone as well as hold discussions with his Zambian counterpart Given Lubinda, ZANIS added.

He is being accompanied to Zambia by three lawmakers, eight officials from the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and representatives from 12 German companies.

Zambia's Ambassador to Germany Bwalya Chiti said there is need to strengthen bilateral cooperation through joint agricultural projects in order to improve agricultural productivity. Endi
