Australian man abused 28 children via social media: police

Xinhua, April 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

A man will appear in an Australian court on Monday to face 147 sexual abuse charges involving 28 children in three Australian states.

Queensland police alleged the man groomed the children via social media sites before luring them to hotels and other places where he abused and raped them, and also filmed them in sexual poses and posted the results on-line.

"Groomed" or "grooming" is the term used to describe how pedophiles befriend and cajole people below the Australian sexual consent age of 16 online and talk them into meeting in person.

Pedophiles often pretend online that they too are below 16.

Police say the charged man also used footage he had taken as blackmail to make the children send him more sexually explicit images.

He used several online names, mainly "Jazzman." Endi
