Kuma wins Rotterdam Marathon

Xinhua, April 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ethiopian runner Abera Kuma won the 35th edition of the Rotterdam Marathon on Sunday.

In the final kilometers Kuma distanced himself from Kenyan Mark Kiptoo and reached the finish line on the Coolsingel street alone. The Japanese long distance runner Asami Kato won the women's race in 2:26:30.

Kuma's time of 2:06:46 was not enough for the record, set by both Kenyans Duncan Kibet and James Kwambai in 2009 (2:04:27).

Kenyan Kiptoo finished second in 2:07:20 and his compatriot Bernard Koech ended third in 2.08.02.

The top three were part of a group of favorites which started the race very fast and even ran on course for a World Record (2:02:57, Dennis Kimetto, September 28, 2014, Berlin) after 15 kilometers. However, they lost pace after that point. Endi
