Malta to retain spring hunting as "Yes" camp wins referendum

Xinhua, April 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Malta is to retain its traditional spring hunting which kills over 10,000 migrating birds every year as Saturday's referendum warranted a knife-edge win for the "Yes" camp.

Surveys conducted during the campaign consistently put the "No" camp ahead. However, the "Yes" camp picked up the pace in the last week and killed the referendum with some 51 percent of the vote.

Malta's first ever abrogative referendum attracted 75 percent of voters on Saturday, which is also Malta's seventh referendum in the past 145 years. Endi
