2nd LD Writethru: 3 Indian border troopers injured by drug smugglers at Pakistan border

Xinhua, April 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Three Indian border troopers were injured Friday in cross border firing at a border check point near Amritsar in the northern state of Punjab by smugglers from the Pakistani side, said local media.

The Indo-Asian News Service quoted officials as saying the injured troopers were rushed to hospital, after being wounded in an exchange of fire with smugglers from the Pakistan side early Saturday.

The firing took place at the Daoke Border Out Post about 5 km from Attari border check post.

The India-Pakistan border in Punjab is reportedly frequented by Pakistani and Indian drug smugglers as a main channel for transporting drugs to India.

Indian border troops seized nearly 125 kg of heroin along the Punjab border with Pakistan so far this year, half of them in the Amritsar area. A total of 360 kg of heroin was seized by Indian troops at the border with Pakistan last year. Endi
