Flamengo sign Colombia defender Armero on loan

Xinhua, April 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Flamengo have signed Colombia international defender Pablo Armero on loan until the end of the year, the Brazilian club said on Friday.

The 28-year-old joins the Rio de Janeiro giants from Italy's Udinese, having spent the past seven months on loan at AC Milan.

"I had three options to stay in Europe but I wanted to come to a club of Flamengo's standing," Armero said during a press conference. "I want to win a lot of titles. This is a big opportunity for me. I hope to be able to bring my fighting spirit to the team."

Financial details of the move were not disclosed.

Armero, whose career has included spells at West Ham and Napoli, struggled for first-team football under AC Milan boss Filippo Inzaghi.

He admitted Flamengo manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who coached the left-back at Palmeiras in 2009-10, had been a key factor in his decision.

"Vanderlei's presence was very important in my decision," Armero said. "I know him and he knows me and that gives me confidence."

Armero has been capped 63 times for Colombia since making his international debut in 2008. Endi
