Demand increasing for seafood, agri-food from Canada's British Columbia

Xinhua, April 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

The seafood and agriculture exports of Canada's western province of British Columbia rose by 11 percent last year to nearly 3 billion Canadian dollars (about 2. 4 billion U.S. dollars), according to official data.

On top of the seafood exports were farmed Atlantic salmon, wild sockeye salmon and crabs, while blueberries, baked goods and processed ingredients for food manufacturing led agricultural exports, the British Columbia's Ministry of Agriculture said.

The British Columbia, which is on the west coast of Canada, has been exporting agrifood to 150 countries, with exports valued at 2. 96 billion Canadian dollars in the past year. The United States remains the Canadian province's biggest export market for food, up 12 percent last year, while food exports to Japan rose 17 percent and to China went up by 16 percent. Endite
