Xinhua, April 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong's visit to China has been "a great success," said Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

"Although the visit has not ended yet, through the outcomes of the discussions and talks, contacts and also busy activities of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong in China, we can say that the visit has been a great success, " said Le Hai Binh, spokesperson of the ministry.

Binh made the remarks at a regular press conference held in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Thursday while responding to a reporter 's question over assessment of the outcome of Trong's visit to China.

Trong and Chinese leaders "have had in-depth, frank discussions, and reached important common understanding on some major orientations and measures in order to enhance mutual trust to promote friendship and cooperation for mutual benefit in all areas, making the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China more substantial, healthy, stable and sustainable in the time to come," Binh said.

Trong is paying an official visit to China from Tuesday to Friday at the invitation of Xi Jinping, Chinese President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

It is his second China visit since taking office as Vietnam's party chief in 2011. Endi
