FC Groningen beat Excelsior 3-0 on Wednesday in the Euroborg stadium to qualify for the final of the Dutch Cup for the second time in history.

Excelsior Hans Hateboer put Groningen ahead five minutes from half time. In the second half, the home-team dominated and Albert Rusnak and Tjaronn Chery lifted the score to 3-0, while Chery and substitute Juninho Bacuna also hit the crossbar.

Groningen had reached the final once before in 1989 as the club from the north of the Netherlands lost 4-1 to PSV.

Current Cup holders PEC Zwolle, which beat Ajax 5-1 in the final last year, booked their second consecutive final berth on Tuesday in the other semifinal match.

PEC Zwolle advanced through the penalty shootout over FC Twente following a 1-1 draw in Enschede. Endi
