Visiting Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe said on Wednesday that Africa should have a fair deal at the United Nations in terms of decision making, Mugabe told reporters after talks with his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma.
Africa continues to propose changes to the veto system at the UN Security Council, but there is still resistance from some of the permanent members, Mugage said, while lamenting on the lack of transformation at the UN body.
Mugabe serves as the Chairperson of the African Union and Southern African Development Community (SADC).
In their talks, Mugabe and Zuma discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including establishing an environment of peace and stability in order to achieve regional integration, industrialisation and economic development and the wellbeing of the region and the continent.
Zuma said on his part that the two leaders also deliberated on the global and multilateral matters of interest and concern, especially the need for the reform of the United Nations Security Council as the world heads towards the 70th anniversary of the United Nations this year.
"We are united in our determination to work for peace and stability in every corner of the continent," Zuma said.
Mugabe arrived in South Africa on Tuesday for a two-day state visit, his first in 21 years.
"The visit will further strengthen the historical, cultural and fraternal bonds that exist between South Africa and Zimbabwe," the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation said.
During the visit, a number of agreements have signed, including the Memorandum of Understanding on Diplomatic Consultations which is aimed at establishing a mechanism for regular diplomatic consultations on issues of strengthening bilateral relations, security and cooperation in Africa and issues of mutual interest.
Other agreements include the Agreement on Cooperation on Water Resources Management, the Agreement Regarding Mutual Assistance between Customs Administrations and the Memorandum of Understanding on Trade Co-operation. Endi
