UN deputy chief to visit China

UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson will visit China from Wednesday to Saturday, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.

According to Hua Chunying, Eliasson will meet State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui, and will hold talks with Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong.

Eliasson will exchange views with the Chinese side on UN affairs and other international affairs of common concern.

Hua said Eliasson's visit, in a year holding the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN, will strengthen cooperation between China and the organization, and promote activities to mark the anniversary. Endi
