Kremlin dismisses U.S. accusation of Russian cyber attacks

Xinhua, April 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Russia on Wednesday dismissed U.S. allegations that Russia has been behind the cyber attacks against the White House.

"It has already become a kind of sport - to blame Russia for everything," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, joking that Washington may soon start searching for Russian submarines in the Potomac River that passes through the U.S. capital city of Washington D.C.

CNN reported Tuesday that Russian hackers were behind a cyber intrusion into a non-classified White House computer network.

"The Kremlin faces several hundreds, sometimes thousands, of cyber spying activities a day ... Our special services counter these attempts efficiently," the Interfax news agency quoted Peskov as saying.

The hackers try to disrupt the normal workings of Kremlin's computer and Internet systems by hacking and taking control of the presidential website and so on, Peskov said.

He also said that attempts have been made to disrupt President Vladimir Putin's annual live Q&A session with the Russian public, which is scheduled for April 16 this year. Endit
