No CPC-DPP exchanges if "One China" principle not upheld: mainland

Xinhua, April 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Exchanges between the mainland's Communist Party of China (CPC) and Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will be impossible if the latter still advocates for "Taiwan Independence," a mainland official said on Wednesday.

Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to questions about whether the recent visit by Chao Tien-lin, director of the "DPP Department of Chinese Affairs," to the mainland will lead to CPC-DPP exchanges.

Ma said Chao visited the mainland as a member of a delegation of directors and supervisors of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), "without any relationship to CPC-DPP exchanges."

The mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and the SEF have resumed exchanges annually since June 2008, and Chao's recent visit was for this purpose, Ma said. Endi
