Tokyo stocks close slightly higher on bank easing hopes

Tokyo stocks rose 0.42 percent in the morning session of Wednesday morning on expectations of additional monetary easing by the Bank of Japan.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 82.88 points, from Tuesday to 19,723.42. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange increased 5.50 points, or 0.35 percent, at 1,584.05.

Major gainers included mining, energy and construction issues. Endi
