A 15-year-old South African girl has been taken off a flight at the Cape Town International Airport after leaving home allegedly to join the Islamic State (IS) , the government confirmed on Tuesday.
Her relatives contacted authorities after she disappeared from her parent's home on Sunday morning.
The girl had been using social platforms to interact with strange people and read materials that suggested that she was getting an interest to join the terror group called IS, according to State Security Minister David Mahlobo.
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) said it has noted with concern reports about the girl taken off a flight in Cape Town.
DHA spokesperson Mayihlome Tshwete attributed the rescue of the girl to the recent amendments to South Africa's immigration law and the promulgation of new immigration regulations.
These amendments are meant also to help curb horrendous incidents of this nature, said Tshwete. Endi
